Anne Lynn Gillian-Daniel, PhD is the Director of Education and Outreach for the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (UW-MRSEC) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In this role, Dr. Gillian-Daniel works with researchers to translate cutting-edge, complex materials science and engineering advances into engaging and accessible educational resources for K-12 and public audiences.
Dr. Gillian-Daniel works in and beyond the university to broaden participation of underrepresented groups, including women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields with a focus on materials science and engineering. She has developed and led workshops designed to help researchers in the MRSEC improve their understanding of issues around equity and inclusion. As the chair of the Materials Research Society (MRS) Broadening Participation in Materials committee, Dr. Gillian-Daniel leads efforts to increase the participation of women and underrepresented people in materials science fields globally. Dr. Gillian-Daniel has been an NRMN Master Facilitator since 2015 and uses this experience to facilitate research mentor training for graduate students, postdocs, and faculty interested in mentoring. She has led both mentor training and train-the-trainer workshops at universities and at professional meetings nationally.
